Women Icon Show, PDX

"Annointing The Winds of Chage, Lady Godiva"
by Jennifer Gillia Cutshall
12" x 12" Acrylic on Canvas 2013

Richard and I are happy to be part of the Women Icon Show at Gallery Mini...a new gallery not far from the river on the eastide.
Mari and Leda have proven that size matters. And in this case the smaller, the better with their lovely liitle gallery.
This Grand Opening show will feature the work of 23 Portland artists...see flyer at the end of this post.  Stop by if you are around this Thursday evening and fuss over small things (all works in this show are 12" x 12" or smalller).

Richard's etching is so lovely and provocative.  Julia Pastrana was billed as the ugliest woman in her lifetime.  His portrait betrays this notion and begs the viewer to question our notion of beauty.  Aren't our un-enhanced, unaltered differences our greatest glory?  Can the richness of age and grace captivate us?  Can we find the most delicate of lines along the roughest edge?

Tears to My Eyes

 Steve Earle and Richard Cutshall...
2 great faces
2 great artists
Richard had his 3rd opening at the Portland Art Museum Rental Sales Gallery last night, but he demanded a detour on the way to his show.  Only Steve Earle could distract us away from the opening.  I mean, how often do you have the chance to listen to a living legend a couple of feet away.  Steve's words and the intimacy of his performance at Music Millennium brought tears to my eyes...

meeting Steve Earle was worth the wait

Who was there?
We were...
and we made it there with a few minutes to burn for the opening.
If you ever have the chance to listen to Steve Earle live...do it..and don't look back...

Coolest Ink, Smoothest Drink in PDX

Proud Winner (me)

Rich and I had a smooth night with the fine folks at the Virginia Cafe.  We walked in and the cool air and soulful tunes from the jukebox surrounded us and a well inked young man beckoned us to pick a spot.
Zombie Josh, our fine server at VC in PDX

I love to sit in booths and their well seasoned dark wood nooks did not disappoint.  As soon as I sat I felt the history of all those good times before...A glance at the back of the menu proved my antenna for past shadows correct.  Virginia Cafe was established almost 100 years ago in 1914.
Lovely light fictures and signs abound at VC

My hubby is his namesake & aptly surrounded by gold tones

Sipping a drink in a perfectly lit and time honored bar seduces the senses like a fine gem and glistens like a firefly in a jar...capturing the hope of an early spring...

Burgers are delicious
& the tater tots (I had) ...to die for
This place is the perfect spot if you like bar room ambiance, excellent pub fare, friendly folks (with gorgeous tattoos), and a memorable juke box mix .  It also hits a pitch perfect note of nostalgia  (you can't manufacture this type of atmosphere either, it comes from years of service and great food and drink).
We capped off the night with a sinfully luscious irish coffee...
A warm, but not too sweet perfect end to the perfect night...

the art in great service by Zombie Josh
I felt so lucky to be one of the winners (in February) of the annual lip print contest...I had to blow Rich a kiss...
just for you...
Thanks VC...we will be back
